OWEN HART

About this page.... I decided to post these pictures for a reason. Not to disrespect Owen Hart's memory, his family, or his many fans worldwide. I posted them as a historical record of a life altering event, a business changing event that took place, that I happened to be in attendance for and witnessed. Over the years I have visited several wrestling related forums and found wild speculation and misinformation about what happened that evening. I've tried my best to correct these things but there is no way I can find it all. I hope this page can help straighten some things out for some people. I know that these images can now be found by searching google and yahoo. This seems to be where the majority of the traffic comes from. Occasionally someone finds it and posts it to a forum as well. I have no problem with you doing this. I only ask that you not steal the photographs that I took and please just post the link to this page. I want to maintain the integrity of these photos for all to see so we can remember. Many of you might feel offended by these photos being here. If so, please turn back now. I am also including the email I wrote to my friends just a couple days after this happened and I had returned from also attending the tribute show on Raw the next night in St. Louis, MO. to give you a sense of how 1 wrestling fan felt about this.

SOME THINGS TO NOTE

1.There is no video of this happening. I REPEAT, there is no video! WWE might have one although none of their cameras appeared focused to the area of the fall when it happened. Anyone that tells you they have seen a video is lying to you. There is no video on KazAa or anywhere else and not a single person has ever been able to provide with me with evidence to disprove me. If i ever saw it I would be the first to tell you it existed. No, it is highly unlikely someone had a digital camera that could record video and have used it. For one thing, in 1999 those types of cameras were still extremely rare. Also, Owen fell in just a few short seconds. It would be nearly impossible to set your camera up fast enough to make a recording and get it focused on the correct area, especially with most people's attention directed toward the Titan Tron to watch the vignette being presented. So I say again, there is no video,

2. It is not shown on the PPV. I have this PPV on tape. I have the live broadcast of it. The PPV was shown once more as a repeat again that night. It was never shown again and no official release of the PPV on VHS or DVD was ever allowed out.

3. It was not a plot by Vince McMahon to kill Owen. I know that sounds crazy, but I have actually heard this theory put out there. It was an equipment problem. The release mechanism that allows you to get out of the harness had a light trigger on it. Some say it had a lighter touch than the trigger on a handgun. This trigger was set off somehow and that is why Owen fell.

4. In none of the pictures below do you see Owen falling. One person asked if a bright spot was my attempt to highlight him as he fell. It was merely a light refraction into my camera lens.

THESE ARE SOME PICS

Owen Hart Page RIP 5/23/99 Kansas City, MO

Here is a picture of the catwalk above me and Owen and his escort wearing
street clothes over his wrestling outfit. You can barely make out his blue
wrestling boots from his Blue Blazer costume. He is heading over to the rigging
to prepare for his repel down to the ring. When Owen walked up my aisle I didn't
even notice he was there. The girl in front of me said to her boyfriend she
thought Jeff Jarrett was coming up our aisle. The the boyfriend as well as me
and my friend looked at the guy and saw it was Owen Hart.

In the next picture I have circled the curtain in the rafters. This is the area
where Owen removed the street clothes he was wearing over his wrestling outfit.
This is also where he was put in the harness to be lowered out down to the ring.
He would step off the catwalk, hang for a second and then fall after the trigger
that releases the harness accidentally is tripped by something

I took this picture just seconds before Owen Hart fell. I have circled where the
curtain is that he is standing behind. You can see on the screen they are still
showing a clip of Owen hart talking with Kevin Kelly from an earlier interview.
That video was also playing on the Titan Tron.

Just after I took the last picture Owen Hart fell to the ring. These are
immediately after he fell out of the rigging when he stepped off the catwalk and
fell. His head and legs hit the ropes right by the turnbuckle and then he
bounced over into that position. At this moment he's been laying there for about
3 or 4 seconds maybe less.

At this point I had taken the last picture on my roll of film and was having to wait for it to rewind so I could change it out for a new roll. Maybe up to a minute of time passed. Before I was able to get these pictures of the emergency crew attending to Owen Hart. In this first one you can see Jerry Lawler standing outside the ring in front next to the man in the red shirt. Jim Ross sits alone at the announce table.

In the photo below Lawler has climbed in the ring and is looking on right in front of the ref with his hands on his head. That is also the ref that Owen yelled at as he fell to move so he didn't land on him. Any time I see him ref a match today I always think of this picture.

At this point they are preparing to move Owen out of the ring.

After the PPV was over I took this picture so I could have some perspective as to how far he fell. This shows approx where he fell from. I have circled where the curtain in the rafters is. Some have said the distance is about 85 feet while other reports were 100 feet. He supposedly was traveling 80 Kilometers/hour (50 mph) when he hit according to the court transcripts. UPDATE: I currently believe the actual distance is 78 feet. This coincides with my original estimate the night I saw it happen that it was between 70-80 feet. I will update the notation in the picture at some time in the future when I have more time.

I am also including a few other photos I have found over the years. 2 are Associated Press photos that went out on the wire for papers who were going to run a story about it. Another is the front page of a news paper the next day.

Here I am including some scans of the Kansas City Star newspaper I purchased the next morning (Monday, May 24, 1999) before leaving the hotel to head to St. Louis for Raw the following night. Click on the thumbnails to see larger versions.

Here are scans of my tickets from the Over the Edge PPV and Raw from the next night where they did the tribute to Owen. The PPV stub is the actual ticket I used. The Raw stub is an unused extra ticket I had, because I am unable to locate my original at this time. Click on the thumbnail to see the larger versions.
